AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY OF D'IBERVILLE TO CONTRIBUTE FUNDS TO THE CITY OF BILOXI TO ASSIST IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ANNETTE S. O'KEEFE ADDITION TO THE GEORGE E. OHR ARTS AND CULTURAL CENTER IN BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. It is determined and declared for the benefit of the people of the City of D'Iberville and the surrounding area, the increase of their commerce, welfare and prosperity, the improvement and maintenance of their economic condition through the development of tourism facilities and the enhancement of their quality of life through the development of arts and cultural centers, it is essential that the people of the area preserve the cultural artifacts and history of the internationally acclaimed potter, George E. Ohr, whose principal work was done in the City of Biloxi, Mississippi, and it is beneficial that the George E. Ohr Arts & Cultural Center in downtown Biloxi be provided with additional means to assist in the development of such facilities by construction of the Annette S. O'Keefe addition to the George E. Ohr Arts & Cultural Center by authorizing the City of D'Iberville to contribute funds to the City of Biloxi, all to the public benefit and good, as more fully provided herein. This act shall be liberally construed in conformity with such intention.
SECTION 2. The governing authorities of the City of D'Iberville, Mississippi, in their discretion, may contribute an amount not to exceed Twenty-five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00), from any available funds, during the 1999 calendar year, to the City of Biloxi, Mississippi, for the purpose of assisting in the construction of the Annette S. O'Keefe addition to the George E. Ohr Arts & Cultural Center facilities in downtown Biloxi, Mississippi.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
